This diving adventure week leading up to Memorial Day weekend has two parts, starting with this Megalodon teeth expedition to Topsail North Carolina, led by our own Local Diving Committee Chair, Larry Cohen!

About 1.5 to 16 million years ago the prehistoric shark Megalodon swam in these waters hunting whales. Just like modern sharks these sharks had 6 rows of teeth. As they fed, the sharks would lose the front row of teeth as the back row moved forward. Many of these teeth are now on the ocean floor waiting for a new home (your house!) in NY. We will be diving on ledges in 100' of clear blue water. We should see lobsters and other interesting marine life as we search for these prehistoric specimens.

Watch this video and see what it's like to dive for Megalodon teeth in Topsail:

Because of the size of the boat, only 5 divers (plus the trip leader) can go on this part of the trip, so if you're interested, RSVP right away!

You will be staying in a comfortable rental house across the street from the beach and only 5 blocks to some nice restaurants and bars:

It is about a 1.5-hour boat ride to these special ledges. The boat is small, without a cabin or head so this will be a real adventure!

Facts about this trip:

  • You must have 75 or more dives and ocean experience to go on this trip.
  • Vis for this part of the trip will be around 30'.
  • Included daily diving is two tanks
  • You will need a wreck reel and goodie bag.
  • You must have a dive computer (if you don't own one you can rent one).
  • Since the boat is small you will be diving singles or one set of doubles for the two dives per day.
  • Because this is such a special location personal GPS devices are not allowed on the boat.

These Megalodon teeth can fetch tidy sums in the hundreds of dollars each. Sign up now to be part of the adventure and bring home a piece of pre-history!
