We're going cruising the Exumas (an mostly uninhabited island chain in the Bahamas) in style aboard the luxury liveaboard Aqua Cat!

The new 102 ft catamaran, Aqua Cat, offers luxury accommodations, a spacious main salon and an extremely smooth ride. The eleven passenger cabins are some of the largest of any liveaboard in the world.

This trip is great for non-divers as well!

The Aqua Cat offers many activities besides scuba diving. You will have a great time exploring the 200 mostly uninhabited islands with their many beautiful beaches in the northern Exumas. The Aqua Cat has a 28' launch that can take you to isolated beaches where you can sunbathe, explore, kayak, snorkel or fish. You will enjoy feeding and photographing the iguanas on Allan's Cay. You can visit the headquarters of the Exumas Land & Sea Park on Warderick Wells and explore the many trails. You can also kayak the creeks that meander through Shroud Cay. These creeks are nurseries for many varieties of fish and sharks. For those interested in bird watching, the Exumas are a nesting area for many species of seabirds.

What's diving like in the Exumas? Check out this video:

Have you ever wondered what it's like to swim through a kelp forest? Experience the unique diving of Southern California's Channel Islands, consistently rated in the Top 5 of Scuba Diving Magazine's Top 100 Reader's Choice Awards in multiple categories, including Top Destinations for Beginners (North America). We'll spend three diving days on the liveaboard dive boat Sand Dollar out of picturesque Ports O'Call Village in San Pedro (Los Angeles Harbor).

Some things we might see: sea lions, harbor seals, dolphins, giant sea bass, horn sharks, leopard sharks, bat rays, electric rays, moray eels, scorpionfish, sheep crab, guitarfish -- and all the small creatures inhabiting the kelp forest environment (if we're really lucky, we might see blue whales and orcas topside).

Pictures: Channel Islands underwater photos

This 3-day liveaboard trip includes the following:

* All meals: Not just three meals per day... plenty of great snacks between all meals. And we're not talking frozen burgers, canned soup and potato chips.
* Tanks, weights, all air fills. Nitrox fills also available at an extra charge (1 fill $10, 3 fills $25, 6 fills $40).
* Diving, diving and more diving (including night diving).

SoCal dive boats are not luxury liveaboards. You won't have your own stateroom, but you will have your own private bunk with curtain. Double bunks available for couples or those who want to share. The Sand Dollar features one cold shower outside and two hot showers belowdecks; full galley with seating for 22, two heads, heating and air conditioning, and a fantastic full-service crew.

Our schedule:

* Fly into LAX or Long Beach Airport on Wednesday.
* Board the boat in San Pedro as early as noon and no later than 11 PM Wednesday night.
* Boat leaves while we sleep, and we wake up at the first dive site Thursday morning: the sea lion rookery of Santa Barbara Island! (video)
* Dive! Dive! Dive! Thursday through Saturday: Santa Barbara Island Thursday morning, Santa Catalina Island Thursday afternoon/evening, San Clemente Island Friday all day/evening, finish back at Catalina all day Saturday.
* Back in port by 5 PM Saturday evening; enjoy the many restaurants and shops at Ports O'Call Village, stay overnight at local hotel (not included).
* Fly home Sunday (try to schedule your flight in the afternoon, so you can dive more on Saturday).

**Cost for this trip is $499 per person.**

Air fare, hotel and transfers to the boat are not included, but sample air fares run $300-350 as of mid-July. Rooms at Vagabond Inn (within walking distance of Ports O'Call Village) are approx. $65 for that Saturday night. Super Shuttle and Prime Time Shuttle both offer van shuttles from the airports to the boat (Ports O'Call Village, 1100 Nagoya Way, San Pedro, CA) for about $25 one way for the first person, with $9 per each additional person.

Feel free to send any questions to Mike Strickland, the diver leading this trip.

RESERVATION & PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

All deposits and installments are NON-refundable. Please purchase trip insurance to ensure you don't lose your money due to illness or other legitimate reasons.

* $200 deposit due upon RSVPing "Yes"
* $299 final payment due August 6

** Pay by check and receive $20 off! (all payments must be made by check to qualify)

* PLEASE DO NOT RSVP "YES" TO THIS EVENT UNLESS YOU PLAN TO PAY YOUR DEPOSIT WITHIN ONE WEEK. RSVPs will be removed for those who do not do so.

Greetings fellow divers!

It's time to hit the ocean. First stop, La Jolla Shores, this Sunday 6/24 at 7am. Yes, it's early!...but that is when there is parking and seas are calm. 2 dives. So, if you're jonesing to descend into the depths (last weekend there were some (HUGE) bat rays out there) then please come and join me. This will be the first dives of the Scuba San Diego Meetup group. Hopefully, we can get this going once a week. Lots to explore! Please contact me if you need any info on where to rent, conditions, etc.

Hello everyone,

This will be our second SCUBA diving trip for the group. We will meet at La Jolla Shores beach at 8:00 am on the grassy area near the main lifeguard tower (intersection of Camino Del Oro and Vallecitos)

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&country=US&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&addtohistory=&cat=&address=Camino+Del+Oro+and+Vallecitos&city=La+Jolla&state=CA&zipcode=92037

The BBQ will start at 2:30 pm.

We will be doing one dive. Make sure you take care of your rental gear in advance. Note that you will need your SCUBA certification to rent certain SCUBA gears, such as air tank. Options for rentals include OEX http://www.oeexpress.com/La-Jolla-Store.html, where we rent our kayaks from, Ocean Enterprises www.oceanenterprises.com, Diving Locker www.divinglocker.com, and Sport Chalet. OEX is the closest to where we are going to dive. They are open 10:00 am - 6:00 pm on weekdays and 8:00 am - 6:00 pm on weekends. We will be diving at a depth of 60 feet. For those that choose to dive deeper, possibly the canyon, we can break off into smaller groups. All levels are welcome to attend. Depending on the size of the group we can dive in pairs, threes or fours.
I am turning on the maybe option for those who do not want to attend the SCUBA diving event, but only the BBQ. This is specially a very good opportunity for those who want to meet their future dive buddies. For the BBQ, I will be supplying the utensils (cups, plates, forks, knives, and spoons), napkins, and ice. I don?t have an ice chest, please bring if you have one. Please RSVP in the maybe section if you plan on attending just the BBQ so that I know how many I should be expecting. If you are attending the SCUBA diving event as well as the BBQ, please RSVP yes and mention it in the comment section. Please bring something to grill and also something to drink. Please NO chips and salsa :)
The BBQ will be held at La Jolla International Gardens at 3417 Lebon Drive, San Diego, CA 92122. We will meet at 2:30 PM in the middle of the complex. There is a volleyball court, but someone has to bring a ball, because I don't have one for playing volleyball :) There are 5 gas grills. This area is on a first come first serve basis, so please arrive on time. Below is the link to the map of the location.

I am the contact person for both events. I will email my cell number to all the yes?s and maybe?s on Thursday. More people from other groups will also be joining us.

Hi everyone,

I just realized that some of you may not be able to come to the Sunday get together because it's such a short notice (Note that the Sunday event is STILL ALIVE).

The purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity for the group members to meet their dive buddies. Let's meet next Thursday, August 2nd at 8:00 pm at a coffee shop in Kearny Mesa. The name of the place is "Tea N More". They have free WIFI and drinks are all under $4.00. The meeting shouldn't take more than an hour. I will email my cell number to all the yes's on Tuesday.

Please come out and let's keep this meetup alive. We all need dive buddies to enjoy the underwater world. And it's always better to have more than 1 dive buddy.

Regards,
Amirreza
